James Blanton served in the North Carolina Volunteers as Quartermaster under the command of M. O. Dickenson in the Indian War. He also served as Sargeant Major under Colonel Bynum, North Carolina Volunteers in the Cherokee Removal, 1838. Colonel Blanton and the families of his sons, Joseph and Edward, all went west in 1868 or 1869. [Watts_New.FTW]
